Slideout Rangehoods

Slideout Rangehoods for Australian Kitchens

A slideout rangehood is installed under an overhead kitchen cabinet and features a telescoping section that pulls out over the cooktop when in use. When retracted, it sits flush with the cabinet base and is virtually invisible. For kitchens where a discreet ventilation solution is the priority, a slideout rangehood is the practical and unobtrusive choice. How Slideout Rangehoods Work

The slideout rangehood body mounts inside or under the overhead cabinet, with a pull-out canopy section that extends forward over the cooktop when cooking. The extraction fan, filters, and controls are housed in the fixed unit, while the sliding canopy simply extends the capture area. When cooking is finished, the canopy slides back and the rangehood disappears into the cabinetry. This makes slideout models particularly popular in rental properties, apartment renovations, and kitchens where aesthetics matter but a canopy-style hood is not preferred.

Key Features to Look For

Extraction Capacity

Slideout rangehoods typically offer lower extraction capacity than canopy or undermount models due to their more compact motor housing. Most models range from 400 to 700 m3/h. They are well suited to electric and induction cooktops with moderate cooking use. For gas cooktops or heavy cooking, a canopy rangehood or undermount rangehood with higher capacity is the better choice.

Width

Slideout rangehoods are available in 60cm and 90cm widths to match your cooktop. Choose a model at least as wide as your cooktop for adequate capture. A wider slideout rangehood provides a larger capture area when extended.

Filter Type

Most slideout rangehoods include aluminium mesh grease filters that capture airborne grease particles before they reach the ducting or charcoal filters. These filters are dishwasher-safe on most models and should be cleaned every 4 to 6 weeks depending on cooking frequency. For recirculating installations, a charcoal filter is also required and needs replacement every 3 to 6 months.

Installation

Slideout rangehoods are the simplest rangehood type to install as they mount under an existing overhead cabinet without requiring new cabinetry or wall modification. For ducted installation, a duct outlet through the cabinet back or top is required. The motor can be positioned close to the wall for a clean installation.
